A Study on Home Support Service for Older People in terms of Necessity and Establishment of Roles：Focusing on the Perspectives of the Service Users and Providers in Gyeonggi province

With the introduction of a number of new social care services for older people, the need to provide home support service for them has been criticized. However, little research has been done to explore the issues about home support service. The aim of this research is to explore the need and the establishment of roles for such service. The study adopted qualitative research methods and conducted three sets of focus group interviews with four elderly clients and eight service providers. According to the research results, the elderly clients were very satisfied with the comprehensive and flexible nature of the services and they reported a need for continued provision of the services. Most of the service providers said that they experienced identity confusion and difficulty in acquiring new clients and both they and the recruiting care workers argued for a change to not duplicate similar services and delivery systems. To cope with the issues, the authors suggest an improvement plan.
